FROM A TO M ... A LIST OF THE MOST WELL KNOWN PASTA SHAPE NAMES!!!

Find here many recipes with pasta shape names description. Get
cooking inspiration and creativity!!! And remember these guidelines...

  • Use thick tomato sauces, pesto, meat or cheese sauces, chunky sauces and sauces with herbs for shaped pasta such as cavatelli, conchiglie, farfalle, fusilli, gemelli lumache, orecchiette, ruotelle or trenne.
  • Use thick tomato sauces, meat sauces, chunky sauces, and thick cream sauces for tubular shaped pasta such as canneroni, cavatappi, garganelli, macaroni, penne or ziti.
  • Use light tomato sauces, light cream based sauces and broth for Stuffed Pasta such as agnolotti, ravioli or tortellini.

    A rippled edge circle or square stuffed pasta
    Cook for 4 to 7 minutes.



    CAPELLINI
    Other shape names for this pasta type are Angel's hair, Cabellos de Angel, Fidelini, Bassetti, Barbine a nido
    This is a very popular shape all over the world. It is very thin long-cut extruded pasta of approximately ø mm 1 - 1.2, suitable for clear soups and thinner, delicate sauces.



    CELLENTANI-GOBETTI
    This is a pasta tube that has been twisted to resembles the shape of a corkscrew.
    Very good for salads.



    CANNELLONI
    Gnocchettoni Zitoni, Tagliati di Zitoni, Cannelloni Zitoni, Sigarette are other canelloni shape names.

    It was originally named This pasta shape resemble a tiny crab which is found along the coast of Italy.

    CAVATAPPI
    Also called AmoriThese are like a S-shaped pasta tube.
    Cooking time, 9 to 10 minutes .



    CONCHIGLIE
    Medium sized pasta shaped similar to a conch shell.
    It is available smooth or ridged and in several sizes. Shells make a great addition to soups or as the base of a wonderful salad.
    Other versions of this pasta type are: CONCHIGLIETTE, which is a tiny version of “Conchiglie” pasta.
    CONCHIGLIONI which is the largest of the conch shell shaped pastas.

    COUSCOUS
    A rolled wheat, grain shaped pasta that is the tiniest of all pastas.

    “Ditali” is a small, short-cut pasta tubes, approximately 3/8" long.

    This is thinner version of fettuce, approximately ¼ inch wide.

    FUSILLI
    Aldo known as Eliche, Tortiglioni, Spirali
    Fusilli is a flat spiral-shaped pasta, twisted into a shape resembling a screw or spring-like, corkscrew.
    Fusilli can be topped with any sauce and work well on salads or casseroles There are other versions available, as FUSILLI LUNGHI which is a long spiral pasta tube

    GARGANELLI
    Are fine ribbed squares of egg pasta that are rolled into tubular shape.
    Once rolled, they take on a shape similar to penne pasta but are actually more of a scroll shape.



    GEMELLI
    This is a pasta shape that consists of two short pasta strands that are twisted together into a spiral shape.
    It is suitable for casseroles or salads



    GNOCCHI
    Gnocchi is the name given to a small potato dumpling that is made with potatoes, flour and egg, or semolina flour and egg.
    Can be found fresh or dried

    LINGUINE
